چکیده
As one of the fundamental problems in fluid mechanics, flow-induced vibration a flexible cylinder helps shed light on various complex fluid–structure interaction phenomena, such as coupling effect cross-flow and in-line motions relationship between external forces vortical wake patterns. This paper devised non-uniform in-flow condition (partially uniform flow partially still water) for cylinders experimental numerical conditions. Consistently, new phenomenon is observed different scale experiments simulations where secondary traveling wave excited from water part to inflow due positive energy input water. Furthermore, detailed visualization patterns around vibrating reveals that force sources are existence attached vortex pair with an uneven strength, which has been before rigid oscillatory or oscillating at Keulegan–Carpenter number 4 7.

Suppression of Vortex Shedding from a Circular Cylinder by using a Traveling Wave Wall
An experimental study was conducted to suppress the unsteady vortex shedding from a circular cylinder by using a traveling wave wall (TWW). The leeward surfaces of the circular cylinder model were replaced by wave surfaces, which can move to form symmetrical TWW when driven by a motor system. The propagation speed of the wave was adjustable by controlling the rotational speed of the motor. Duri...

متن کاملVortex-induced vibrations of a long flexible cylinder in shear flow
We investigate the in-line and cross-flow vortex-induced vibrations of a long cylindrical tensioned beam, with length to diameter ratio L/D=200, placed within a linearly sheared oncoming flow, using three-dimensional direct numerical simulation. The study is conducted at three Reynolds numbers, from 110 to 1100 based on maximum velocity, so as to include the transition to turbulence in the wake...

A numerical simulation of vortex-induced vibration of a 2-dimensional elastic circular cylinder with two degree of freedom under the uniform flow is calculated when Reynolds is 200. 2-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved with the space-time finite element method, the equation of the cylinder motion is solved with the new explicit integral method and the mesh renew is ac...
متن کاملAn experimental investigation on vortex induced vibration of a flexible inclined cable under a shear flow
In the present study, an experimental investigation was performed to characterize the vortex induced vibration (VIV) of a flexible cable in an oncoming shear flow. The VIV tests were conducted in a wind tunnel with a flexible cable model. It was found that, under different oncoming velocity profiles, the cable model behaved in single-mode and multi-mode VIVs. The displacement amplitudes of the ...
